Ten Most Endangered Historic Properties Fundraiser

Please plan to join AAHP on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at the Oscar Anderson House Museum grounds from 6-8pm for an evening to benefit AAHP's Ten Most Endangered Historic Properties grant program.  The Grant Program funds hands-on  preservation work on endangered properties and  serves as seed money to leverage  funding from other sources.  The program calls attention to threatened properties that define our great state, the people that live here and the  identity that we share.  Nominations for this program are  submitted by  individuals and organizations throughout  Alaska.  For more information contact us at akpreservation@gmail.com or 907-929-9870.

Anchorage Honors its History Day Winners

Anchorage's 35 state History Day winners and their family members packed into the Pioneer School House on Sunday for a celebation!  The Anchorage Women's Club, Anchorage Historic Preservation Commission, and AAHP hosted the event as part of the kick-off for Anchorage's month long National Historic Preservation Month celebration.  This year 54 Alaska students won the State History Day contest and the honor of participating in the National History Day contest at the University of Maryland in June.  Their entries included papers, websites, exhibits, performances, and documentaries on topics such as Upton Sinclair, Henry Ford, World War II, the Internet, and Frida Kahlo.  Follow the this link to see them.  Congratulations to all!

Sign up for Nike Site Summit Tours to Begin Soon!

The Friends of Nike Site Summit (FONSS) and Alaska Veterans' Museum will soon be taking reservations for Summer 2013 tours.  Five tours are currently planned and, depending on demand, more may follow.  FONSS is especially excited about the planned June 21st Summer Soltice Tour!
